Brilliant photos with greater dynamics

What is HDR imaging?

HDR images contain a greater range of light that is present in real-world scenes. Three photos are captured at different exposure levels, which are then combined into one with a higher level of color precision aka higher dynamic range. A standard screen has a limited dynamic range that inadequately displays the full range of light intensities found in an HDR image. To address this issue, the contrast range is compressed with a technology called tone-mapping so the photo can be displayed on a standard non-HDR screen. vividHDR enables you to tweak the parameters of tone-mapping so that you can choose between a natural-looking image or one with exaggerated contrast for dramatic effects.

We’re very excited to offer you incredible HDR photos in ProCamera

You can purchase vividHDR as an extension to ProCamera. vividHDR in ProCamera combines the best HDR for iOS 9 along with the professional feature set of ProCamera. To make sure you like it, you can try it out before buying it. In demo mode, your HDR photos will have a watermark that can’t be removed.

Prepare to be amazed how “real” your photos will look.

vividHDR enables you to take photos with a greater dynamic range, which translates into capturing more details in highlights and shadows. The human eye detects much more variation in color and tonal range versus a regular camera. When a photo is taken with an iPhone without HDR, for instance, it might appear flat because of this information loss. vividHDR works around that problem by approximating the way the human eye takes in all those little details.

vividHDR does this by combining three pictures with different exposures into one HDR image. You can choose if you want the photo to appear completely natural, or if you want a more vivid or dramatic look as HDR photos have become known for.

We are particularly excited to present our unique Natural HDR capture function. We believe Natural HDR carries the potential to have as much impact on digital photography as the invention of color film had on analog photography in the past. vividHDR in ProCamera is so fast and precise, you can take photos without a tripod and capture scenes with objects in motion without ghosting.

We have partnered with Ittiam Systems, the company behind vividHDR, to bring you this amazing feature. We are convinced they have created the best HDR technology to be found on mobile devices. Together, we have seamlessly integrated this function into ProCamera to combine the best HDR for iOS along with the comprehensive feature set already found in ProCamera.

HDR with Manual Bracketing

Take great HDR photos with ease in Auto-mode, or set manual exposure for each of the three individual photos which are taken in quick succession in HDR mode. You can either use the automatic scene analysis – which is one important component that accounts for the high quality you get with vividHDR – or you can choose to set all exposure levels manually. There are two modes for the latter: MEB und AMEB.

Automatic HDR mode analyzes the range of contrast for your subject in a two-step scene analysis. In this mode, optimal values are automatically set to capture both an under- and overexposed image of your subject. This intelligent scene analysis forms a crucial part of the quality of vividHDR, making it the go-to choice in most situations. Just set exposure and focus (or let the camera do this automatically), then tap the shutter button and hold your iPhone steady. vividHDR will analyze the scene, then ProCamera will take three shots in quick succession (Bracketing). A preview shows the results.

MEB (Manual Exposure Bracketing)

Manual Exposure Bracketing (MEB) mode lets you set the range of under/over-exposure symmetrically – similar to many DSLR cameras – and allows you to reduce or extend the range of contrast and color. In this manual mode no two-step scene-analysis is performed, so it’s up to you to set the optimal values.

AMEB (Advanced Manual Exposure Bracketing)

In Advanced Manual Exposure Bracketing mode (AMEB) you have full control over exposure values of your HDR photos. In AMEB mode, all three exposure levels can be determined independently.

An automatic two-step scene-analysis does not take place. In this mode you can create artistic modifications or nuanced HDR effects. However, careful arranging of the settings is required, in order to achieve good results. AMEB is an interesting tool for artistic photography and special HDR effects. We are curious to see what you come up with.
