What exactly is “ProCamera Up”?
ProCamera Up is an optional upgrade. The subscription provides access to additional premium features. At the time of introduction, ProCamera Up includes three components: the groundbreaking Auto Perspective Correct, the secure Private Lightbox for personal captures, and the handcrafted San Fran Filter Pack. In future updates, more features and enhancements will be included in the bundle.
What changes will the subscription bring for me as an existing user?
All available features remain accessible – that is the entirety of features in the main app as well as features previously unlocked via in-app purchase. We have made sure that no user is disadvantaged by the introduced subscription. That is why the subscription is designed as an optional offer for all who want to upgrade the app with high-end features.
Why a subscription?
There are many reasons for this and we have spent a long time thinking about all the options. The main reasons is: we know that our users expect a continuously evolving high quality product — and subscription is the only way we can truly deliver on that expectation. Not every ProCamera user needs premium features like Auto Perspective Correct – but those who do have high expectations of the functional scope. Even now, directly after the release, we received a lot of user requests for the Auto Perspective Correct feature (e.g. make the correction available in other photo modes, or even video mode).
As a one-time purchase, we would need to offer this feature at a very high price, due to all future expenses for development, adaptation, and maintenance. A subscription allows us to undertake continuous development of the main app and all of its premium components. A subscription model, much more so than a one-time purchase, realistically reflects technological development because it allows the users – and the developers – to operate up-to-date software. Every aspect of the app can be updated and new iPhone and iOS generations can be supported in good time. With a one-time purchase, we would eventually reach a point where further development or just maintenance aren’t economically viable.
Pricing models, which are solely based on one-time purchases, automatically lead to a marketing-driven development. A subscription model allows us to prioritize features for the benefit of our existing users – instead of focusing that energy on attracting new customers. With a subscription model, all aspects of the app can be enhanced regularly for the benefit of all users.
How do I get access to the ProCamera Up premium features?
The premium features of the subscription bundle can be unlocked via Settings > Shop > ProCamera Up.
We also offer an affordable 1 month plan, in case you are interested in temporary access for a vacation or photo project.
